Research Interests
Dr. Faisal Khan is the driving force behind the Precision Medicine Lab (PML) in Peshawar, Pakistan, where he leads an interdisciplinary team integrating systems biology, multi‑omics, and synthetic biology to tackle medical challenges, particularly cancer and infectious diseases. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Oxford, where his research employed machine learning and integrated biological datasets to predict gene functions, leading to the discovery of previously uncharacterized mitotic genes. At PML, he has pioneered Pakistan’s first national cancer genomics initiative, building an OMICS stack—comprising exome sequencing, microbiome profiling, and clinical data—linked to patient-derived primary cell lines and biobanking. Recently, under his leadership, PML launched HistoVault, the country’s largest histopathology image repository and deep‑learning pathology model in collaboration with RMI. Dr. Khan also founded synthetic biology startup Averos.bio, and serves on advisory boards at both federal and provincial levels, including for biotechnology policy and innovation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
